University of New Haven Students Set to Produce Short Film My Man for 2025

West Haven, CT — The University of New Haven's College of Arts and Sciences has officially selected a short film project to be developed by students during the Spring and Fall semesters of 2025. Titled My Man, the film is written and directed by Kathryn Asiel and follows the journey of a young woman, an aspiring singer, who falls in love with a man hiding a dark secret.

This student-led production will be brought to life by a dedicated crew of nine talented filmmakers:

  • Mackenzie Marquardt (Casting Director)

  • Quinn Lawson (Writing Team Member)

  • Janelle Rosario (Location Manager)

  • Messiah Williams (Co-publicist) 

  • Jay Lee Sanders (Member of the Writing Team/Co- Publicist)

  • Elisa Broche (Unit Productions Manager)

  • Alexa Maniccia (Member of the Writing Team)

Under the guidance of the University's Film and Media Studies program and Prof. Paul Falcone, this project provides hands-on industry experience while showcasing the storytelling and production skills of the next generation of filmmakers.

Production is set to begin in the coming months, with further details on casting, filming locations, and release dates to be announced soon.

Casting In New York

First Casting Round Announced for My Man in New York City

New York, NY — The anticipated short film My Man, written and directed by Kathryn Asiel and produced by University of New Haven students, is officially moving into the casting phase. The first round of auditions will take place in New York City on March 14, 15, and 16, 2025.

The casting process will be led by Casting Director Mackenzie Marquardt, alongside Director/Writer Kathryn Asiel, Co-Publicist and Writing Team Member Jay Lee Sanders, and Unit Production Manager Elisa Broche, all of whom will be attending the auditions in person.

My Man follows the story of a young woman, an aspiring singer, who falls in love with a man concealing a dark secret. The production team is seeking a talented cast to bring this compelling and emotional narrative to life.
